Year 6 Welcome Broadcast – Wednesday 15th July

Dear Parent/Carers

At this time in the year we would normally be warmly welcoming all new year 7 students and parents into the Academy ahead of joining us in September, to meet the Principal and other key staff. Unfortunately, Year 6 transition for 2020 has had to be very different than usual due to influences beyond our control.

We would however, like to invite you a virtual Welcome Meeting on Wednesday 15th July at 4.30pm to meet the Principal, Mr Roberts and the Head of Year 7, Miss Court.

Also in attendance will be Ms Bonner, Vice Principal and Mrs O’Riordan, SENCO.

Please use the link below, there will be a text Q&A for any parents that would like to ask questions.

We hope you are able to join us.

Thank you to all those that attended, the live event has now finished, if you couldn’t make it you can view a recording by using the link below.

New Starters Data Collection

If your child is due to start with us in September and you haven’t yet filled in the data collection form please follow the link below to take you to the form.

We need this information for all students before they start with us in September, the form should take 10 – 15 minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Transition 2020

Normally at this time of the year we would be busy preparing and planning for the opportunity to spend time together in July so that you can get a feel for life at secondary school. Sadly, this isn’t currently possible. However, all the staff and pupils of the Albion Academy want to make this transition as easy as possible for you as we all get ready for the new academic year.

There are many resources and support documents on this page that we hope will give you a better idea of what life at the Albion Academy is like! To the right you can download a booklet which contains all the information you need about the Albion Academy, such as the subjects and the extra-curricular activities on offer, the equipment you will need and how to order the school uniform.

This page includes messages from the school principal, your head of year and pastoral manager and we have messages from one of our current year 7 pupils and our Head Boy and Head Girl in year 11. Included on this page are a variety of introductory lessons from all of our departments to help give you an idea of what you will learn in your first year with us.

We do hope that you enjoy what we have prepared for you and that you will get involved. You can send your work in and photos/videos to newintake2020@albionacademy.co.uk and we will make a fantastic display for when you start in September and we will share it on our school Twitter page.

We are looking forward to meeting you fully in September!

Virtual Tour

We think we have a lovely school building and lots of amazing classrooms and social places for you to feel safe, happy and ready to learn.

The building might seem really big at first so here is a virtual tour around the Albion Academy to help you familiarise yourself with it so you will know your way around before you even get here!

Transition Booklet (Introductory lessons)

We want to know as much about you as possible when you start with us in September 2020.

To help us do this, the Albion Academy teachers have created a Transition Booklet with lots of fun tasks included which cover many of the different subjects you will begin in Year 7.

You can download the introductory lesson transition booklet here but if you would like a copy posting to your home address then please email us here newintake2020@albionacademy.co.uk and we will be happy to send you a copy.

'Sky Hawk' Transition Project

This year we would like all year 6 pupils to take part in the Sky Hawk Transition Project. We would like all year 6 students to read the novel Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis and complete the fun activities in the workbook provided.

There is also a competition for students where we would like you to design a new front cover for the book.

All information and resources for the Sky Hawk Literacy Transition Project can be found here.

Learning Support Unit

The SEN/D department seeks to develop the full potential of each child, recognising the uniqueness of each individual. We aim to provide support for pupils who require it within a caring environment that allows pupils to develop towards their full potential regardless of ability.

We want to reassure you that you have nothing to worry about and hopefully these documents can answer any initial concerns you may have.

Wellbeing

Here at the Albion Academy we pride ourselves on making all pupils feel safe, happy and part of our community and so we therefore the wellbeing of all of our pupils is very important to us. We also know that the move from primary school to secondary school can be daunting for some pupils and their parents / carers.

We want to reassure you that you have nothing to worry about and hopefully these documents can answer any initial concerns you may have.
