GCSE Results Day 2024

This morning, students at The Albion Academy in Salford have been celebrating their GCSE results, which have represented some strong individual successes as well as improvements across the year group.

This year at the school, 63% of students achieved a grade four or above in both English and Maths which represents a seven percentage point increase on the previous year’s results. 42% achieving grade 5 or above in both English and maths.

At the higher level, there were also improvements in the proportion of students achieving grade 7 or above in both English and maths respectively. This is reflective of the school’s relentless drive to set ambitious expectations for all students.

Amongst those celebrating today were a number of students who achieved top grade 9s, including:

• Ramatulai Balde, who achieved seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and two grade 7s;
• Salma Al Terawi, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s;
• Jahi Greg Djoumbissie, who achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s and two grade 7s;
• Nathan Michael, who achieved two grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s, one grade 6 and a Level 2 Merit.

Many other students achieved well and made strong progress from their respective starting points and were delighted to see their hard work and perseverance rewarded with some good GCSE results.

Describing how staff had supported them through their exams, Year 11 Lurio said:

“I got a lot of support from the teachers and it helped me quite a lot. I knew everything that I needed to do and that really helped me a lot with the exams.”

Ramatulai confirmed that teachers had been a great help in exam preparation, in particular through additional sessions for revision, saying:

“Shout out to Mr Arnetoli and Mrs Milner for doing all those extra sessions for us. They were really helpful throughout the whole thing.”

Following the morning’s celebrations, Mathew Rogers, Principal at The Albion Academy, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the efforts seen this year from our students who, regardless of their starting point, have made some strong progress. They should each take pride and celebrate what their hard work has resulted in.

“These outcomes and the improvements achieved are testament to the significant work of our students and staff who, collectively, have created an aspirational mindset across the year group.

“It is brilliant as a Head Teacher to have such commitment from the whole school community – our young people, staff and families – in support of our rising standards and expectations. This importance and value of these partnerships is borne out in today’s celebrations, so thank you to everyone and congratulations again to our students.”
