Broughton House Partnership

Since 2016, the school has formed strong links with Broughton House, a Salford based home for veterans. The CCF (RAF) Cadets visited the home and sat and chatted with veterans about their experiences in the military. This was an extremely positive experience for both pupils and the veterans themselves. The veterans were also treated to a fantastic solo singing performance by Sergeant Rukayat Yusuff who was backed up by the band that had come in to play for the afternoon.

This visit was proceeded with an invitation to the Broughton House Centenary parade celebrating 100 years of veteran care at the home. Pupils marched on the day (photo below) and took part in an extremely moving service helping to give out flowers to a number of veterans. Post-service the cadets also supported in the running of the buffet lunch helping to both serve and tidy up.

CCF Cadet Fundraising

The school has a deep commitment to supporting a variety of charities. In 2017 the Church of Ascension was destroyed by a fire after a recent renovation. Inspired by a desire to help, a number of CCF cadets decided to pitch an idea to the Headteacher to run a fundraising non-uniform day. The day went ahead and was a roaring success with the total amount coming to almost £800 which was presented to a number of very grateful members of the church.

Poppy Appeal

Since the establishment of the school’s cadets in 2014, every year the unit has participated in fundraising for the Poppy Appeal. For the first three years the cadets sold the poppies around school and were very successful however in 2017 we were authorised to represent CCF cadets and sell poppies in Manchester Victoria train station where a number of staff and other volunteers participated and raised a fantastic amount of cash.
