PSHE & RSE

PSHE at the Albion Academy – The Pastoral Curriculum

The Albion Academy intends to provide students with a high-quality PSHE education, which we present as the ‘Pastoral Curriculum’, that prepares students for life in modern Britain as well as ensuring an appreciation of the wider world we live in.

At both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, all students encounter a one-hour Pastoral Curriculum lesson on a fortnightly basis, delivered by their form tutor, however, is complimented through additional workshops, enrichment days and assemblies throughout the year.

The curriculum is designed to support the development of the Academy’s values, alongside British values. Schemes of work have been planned to respond to issues that arise in the school and wider community.

The Pastoral Curriculum aims to foster students’ awareness of democracy, government and how laws are made and upheld. Teaching in Citizenship will equip students with the knowledge and interest to explore political and social issues. Explicit and regular reference to British Values is covered throughout the Pastoral Curriculum.

The 2019 Relationship, sex and health education curriculum has been fully implemented into our curriculum design. RSE is taught through the Pastoral Curriculum but is additionally supported through workshops and assemblies. The Curriculum for RSE has been designed to support our students lifelong learning about relationships, emotions, looking after ourselves, different families, sex, sexuality and sexual health. We aim for the students in our school to acquire the appropriate knowledge, develop their skills and form positive beliefs, values and attitudes.
