Key Stage 3 Art

The Art and Design curriculum at The Albion Academy is designed to nurture and awaken a joy in creative expression. Through our curriculum we ensure students see themselves, feel represented and are introduced to a world beyond their immediate experience. We hope to provide a safe space to become themselves, instead of more like everyone else. Pupils are taught by specialists where possible.

Curriculum Overview for Art & Photography

Key Stage 4 Art and Design

The Key Stage 4 Art and Design curriculum is intended to inspire and equip students to think innovatively and develop a broader creative understanding. Each term students will focus on a different project that enables them to develop a wide range of core skills within the subject, as well as encouraging them to produce creative outcomes that fulfil all assessment criteria.

The curriculum is designed to engage and challenge students, enabling all students to achieve regardless of ability and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment and create their own works of art, craft, and design. By exploring a range of artists and techniques, students develop a broad understanding of the subject, allowing them to make imaginative decisions on their own pieces of work.

As students progress throughout their GCSE course, they will be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They will understand how art and design contributes to the culture and creativity of the world around them.

Assessment is by:

  • Portfolio of Work (Controlled Assessment) - 60%
  • Externally Set Task - 40%

It is a strong foundation for further progression to Art and Design related courses such as A-level Art and Design as well as enhanced vocational and career pathways.
